Angela Upright, a former Ursinus basketball player and current Program Coordinator for the Harold C. Smith Program in Christian Studies, is in her first season as an assistant with the women's basketball program.
A 2017 graduate of Ursinus, Upright develops directed experiential learning opportunities for students both domestically and internationally. Through the generous support of the Harold C. Smith Foundation, Angela plans vocational discernment retreats, an Alternative Spring Break Faith and Service Trip, conferences, and all other programming that serves to give students the opportunity to engage in vocational discernment, religious, and spiritual exploration. She also collaborates with the Ursinus Wellness Center to facilitate opportunities for students to engage in the spiritual domain of wellness.
Upright advises the Vocation Discernment and Community Development Interns, Interfaith Committee, and Chapel Program. She is thrilled to work with Ursinus students this year to foster opportunities for students to connect with themselves, the Ursinus community, and community partners both domestically and abroad in opening dialogues about spirituality, religion, and vocation.
During her time at Ursinus, Upright was a Resident Advisor, Bonner Leader, Senior Admission’s Fellow, Chapel president, and Student Commencement Speaker. As a Bonner Leader, she served as the Student Volunteer Coordinator for Parkhouse Nursing Home, tutored ESL to the Ursinus Cleaning Staff, and was a dedicated volunteer at ACLAMO Family Centers in Norristown. She also played one season of basketball, but her career was shortened by injuries.
Upright, who obtained a degree in Health & Exercise Physiology, was nominated by her classmates and elected as the student commencement speaker at her graduation ceremony in 2017.
