Bears set for second-round NCAAs against Lynchburg Saturday

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Ursinus will face Lynchburg at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the second round of the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championships.

Ursinus (18-2) received a first-round bye after defeating Johns Hopkins, 6-0, in the Centennial Conference Championship game on Sunday afternoon.

Lynchburg (18-4) won the Old Dominion Athletic Conference with a 1-0 victory over Eastern Mennonite on Saturday, then defeated Juniata College 5-3 on Wednesday afternoon in a driving rain storm.

The winner of the first game will advance to take on the winner of Saturday's second semifinal, Trinity (Conn.) (15-2) and Middlebury (12-4).

Both teams hail from the New England Small College Athletic Conference. Trinity advanced to the title game before falling to Tufts by a 3-2 score. Trinity received a first-round bye.

Middlebury advanced to Collegeville by defeating UMass.-Dartmouth 5-1 on Wednesday afternoon.

Saturday's winner will play at 1 p.m. on Sunday for the right to advance to the NCAA Division III Championship Semifinals at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Mass.

Tickets for the weekend are $5 for adults and $3 for students with ID, children under 12 and senior citizens.
