Head of the Class
COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus College men's basketball junior forward Jon Ward (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) was named to the CoSIDA/Capital One District 4 Academic All-District first team on Thursday afternoon.
The team, voted upon by Sports Information Directors in Pennsylvania, recognizes those student-athletes who have a GPA of 3.3 or higher and have played in 50 percent of their games. District 4 includes all Division III schools in the Commonwealth.
Ward, who was named to the all-district team last season, leads Ursinus with 17.2 points per games and has shot 60.8 percent from the field this season. He scored his 1,000th career point in a win over Haverford in December and averages five rebounds per game.
Away from the court, Ward boasts a 3.82 GPA with a major in Physics. He is an All-Centennial All-Academic selection.
By virtue of his first-team selection, Ward will advance to the national ballot for a chance to be named an Academic All-American.
Ursinus will host Gettysburg on Saturday.
