Softball places five on All-Centennial squad

LANCASTER, Pa. – Ursinus placed five members on the 2010 All-Centennial Softball team on Thursday afternoon as announced by the conference office. The team is voted upon by the head coaches in the conference, who are not allowed to vote for their own team.

Headlining the selections is senior pitcher Lauren Davis-Macedonia (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional) as the Pitcher of the Year for the third straight year. She is the seventh Ursinus pitcher to be named Pitcher of the Year and is the 20th player to earn first-team All-Centennial honors three times.

Joining Davis-Macedonia on the first team are freshman first baseman Allison Pfrommer (Franklinville, N.J./Delsea Regional) and sophomore outfielder Kelly Kalovcak (Pottsville, Pa./Minersville Area).

Second team honors went to freshman shortstop Kelli Jerdan (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) and junior third baseman Kristen Gallagher (Newtown Square, Pa./Newtown Square).

Davis-Macedonia continues to rewrite both the Ursinus and Centennial Conference record books as she recently crossed the 1,000 strikeout mark in her career. This year, she is 20-3 with a 0.70 ERA and has 229 strikeouts to just 21 walks. She has allowed just 15 earned runs and teams are batting .149 against her.

Pfrommer, who is the 29th freshman to earn first-team All-Centennial honors, currently stands second on the team in batting average at .394 with a team-best 37 hits and also is second on the team in doubles (8) and triples (4). She also has scored a team-best 26 runs.

Kalovcak leads the team in batting average at .409 and has a team-best ten doubles and 21 RBI. She is second-best on the team in slugging percentage at .523 and is perfect in the field with 178 putouts without an error.

Jerdan, heading into the post-season, is batting an even .300 with 14 RBI and a team-best five triples.

Gallagher is batting .370 with 20 hits and three doubles and is tied for the team lead in stolen bases with three.

Ursinus is currently 27-5 and will host Dickinson in the first round of the Centennial Conference playoffs on Saturday.
