Taking Two At Home

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College wrestling team remained undefeated after handily defeating The United States Merchant Marine Academy and Gettysburg Saturday at Helfferich Gymnasium, in the their first Centennial Conference dual meets of the season. In the opening match, Ursinus dispatched USMMA 26-13, while the Bears (10-0, 2-0 Centennial) defeated Gettysburg in the second match of the day by a 46-6 score. In the middle match of the tri, USMMA defeated Gettysburg, 30-6.

Against USMMA, Ursinus jumped out to a 12-0 lead after a forfeit at 125 by Zach Fisher and a pin by junior Chris Donaldson, who wrestled up at 133, at 4:58 to start the Merchant Marine match.

At 149, freshman Derek Arnold defeated Jack Walsh 7-0 to get the decision and at 157, junior Richard Jasinski also recorded a decision over Ben Stallings with a 6-2 win.

At 165, sophomore Anthony Carlo recorded a tech fall defeating Bernard Watson 20-5.

Finally in an exciting match at 184, junior Dan Manganaro defeated Sam Fry with a score of 3-1 in in the first overtime to seal the win 26-13.

Against Gettysburg, the Bears dominated again with three pins winning big 46-6 in their final home match of the season.

After Ursinus took a 6-0 lead on a forfeit followed by Donaldson recording another pin, this time on Holt Johnson at 1:18 for a 12-0 edge.

Next at 141, senoir Eli Gaylor making his final appearance at home won a major decision against Matt Spano, 10-0.

At 149, Arnold defeated Brandon Carcuffe with a tech fall winning 15-0.

The next pin of the match came at 157 from Jasinski over Collin Firth at 1:16 to keep Ursinus in control of the match 27-0.

At 165, Carlo won a major decision against Tyler Cunningham 14-4.

Senior Taylor Gload recorded a decision against Camden Stoops 9-4, at 197.

Finally, Matan Peleg dominated Jared Schlett pinning him in only 17 seconds for the final match of the afternoon at 285.

Ursinus will be fighting to keep its perfect streak alive against division leaders Stevens and Johns Hopkins at Johns Hopkins University February 1st.
