Wrestling sweeps NYU/McDaniel

WESTMINSTER, Md. – With just two weeks remaining until the Centennial Conference championships, nationally-ranked Ursinus shows no signs of slowing down as the Bears picked up two wins on Saturday to remain undefeated.

The Bears, ranked 20th by Intermat and 22nd by D3Wrestle, defeated New York University 32-12 and then whipped host McDaniel 40-3 to move to 14-0 and 6-0 in Centennial action.

Against the Violets, who the Bears met for the first time since NYU joined the conference as an associate member, the Bears raced out to a 18-0 lead and never looked back. Junior 125 pounder Christopher Donaldson started his day with a technical fall over Wayne Yuan in just 4:40, winning by a 21-1 score. Sophomore Christian Hoogheem, wrestling at 133, pinned Sean Billings in 1:58, followed by senior Elisha Gaylor getting an 11-0 major decision over Nick Matthews.

At 149, freshman Derek Arnold beat DJ Albonico, 8-2.

At 165, sophomore Anthony Carlo defeated John Messinger by a 16-4 major decision, with junior Christian Psomas winning at 197 with a 11-3 major decision over Dan Brereton and freshman Matan Peleg pinning Anthony Chu at heavyweight, 5:29.

In the McDaniel match, Ursinus started off by winning at 125 as Donaldson picked up a forfeit. Freshman Alexander Kramer had a 5-4 decision over Alvontae Drummond at 141, followed by Arnold winning by pin over Trey Mitchell at 149 in 4:00. Junior Richard Jasinski earned a 10-1 major decision over Erik Meyer at 157 to up the lead to 19-3, followed by Carlo's second win of the day this time a 19-4 tech fall of Luke Yox at the 7:00 mark.

Sophomore Gnoleba Seri won at 174 over Ricky Tisinger by a 18-6 major decision, followed by junior Daniel Manganaro defeating Nick Cross 10-7.

Psomas won his second match of the day at 197 beating Dakota Wilheim by pin in 2:30, with Peleg scoring an overtime win over Taylor Avino 6-1 in the first overtime.

Ursinus heads to Muhlenberg on Saturday, to face the Mules and W&L to close the dual meet season. Ursinus will host the Centennial Conference Championships on February 22nd.
