Wrestling Sweeps Tri-Meet at Scranton

SCRANTON, Pa. – The Ursinus College wrestling team extended its dual-meet winning streak to nine with a pair of victories against Centenary and the host Royals in a tri-meet at Scranton University this afternoon. The Bears kicked off the afternoon with a 39-13 triumph over Centenary before registering a 34-6 defeat of Scranton.

Sophomore Christopher Tan started the Centenary dual by pinning Joe Zargo at 125, and senior Keven Hoogheem needed just 49 seconds to pin Christian Sable at 133.

After senior Christian Hoogheem won via forfeit at 141, the Cyclones got on the board when Christopher Muce edged Ursinus junior Alexander Kramer, 8-4, at 149. Junior Derek Arnold followed with a pin of Allan Jordan at 157.

Freshman Jarret DiGiantomasso dropped a 12-4 verdict to D.J. Wagner at 165, and freshman Robert Endy was pinned by Josh Sibblies at 174. But freshman Nickolas Suk posted a 6-4 decision opposite Joey Ragsdale at 184, and the Bears (9-3) won the final two bouts by forfeit to provide the final score.

Tan coasted to a 16-0 victory against Scranton's Brandon Davis at 125. Keven Hoogheem followed with a 20-9 defeat of Nicholaas DePierro at 133, and Christian Hoogheem pinned Liam Gallagher in 2:24 in the 141-pound bout.

Kramer rebounded with a 16-0 technical fall against Danny O'Neill before Arnold recorded a 7-3 decision against Ian Evans in a matchup of nationally ranked opponents at 157. Arnold is ranked third in the country by d3wrestle.com, with Evans slotted 12th in the "Contender" section of the ratings.

DiGiantomasso eked out a 2-1 triumph versus Zachary D'Apolito at 165, and junior Corey Markovitch defeated Kevin Merle, 19-4, via technical fall at 174.

Scranton broke the Bears' shutout bid with a 10-6 decision from Daniel D'Agostini against Suk, but freshman Michael Newman defeated Salvatore Montuori, 9-5, at 197. Fellow rookie Zeb Pfeiffer dropped a 5-2 verdict against Eric Calimano in the 285-pound bout.

Ursinus returns to Centennial Conference action with a tri-meet at New York University, also featuring Stevens, on Saturday, January 23.
