Wrestling Beats Back Bullets, Blue Jays in Baltimore

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Ursinus College wrestling team stayed perfect in the Centennial Conference and stretched its dual-meet winning streak to 14 with victories against Johns Hopkins (36-6) and Gettysburg (33-10) in Baltimore this afternoon.

Chris Tan scored an 8-3 decision against Evan Krumheuer at 125, and Keven Hoogheem followed with a 17-0 technical fall opposite Brandon Tran at 133.

Christian Hoogheem followed with a pin of Connor Mauriello in 5:36 at 141, and John Morrison repeated the feat against Connor Joyce, needing only 1:46 to register the fall at 149.

Alex Kramer edged Tommy Grifa, 4-2, in the 157-pound bout before Nate Marsh notched a 7-2 verdict opposite Dane Morgan at 165. Corey Markovitch pinned Jared Forman in 3:57 at 174 to keep the shutout intact.

The Blue Jays got on the board with decisions at 184 and 197 before Zeb Pfeiffer closed the books with a 5-1 victory over Hayden Good in the heavyweight bout.

The Bears (14-3, 6-0) captured the first four bouts against Gettysburg. Tan opened the account with an 11-4 win against Noah Malmut, and Christian Hoogheem followed a forfeit at 133 with a fall against Everett Roach at 141.

Morrison's second pin of the day came in a mere 45 seconds against Quinn Merrigan at 149.

After Kramer dropped a 5-3 decision, Robert Endy edged Brandon Carcuffe, 7-5, in the 165-pound matchup and Markovitch blanked Crawford Oswald, 5-0, at 174.

Anthony Cutrufello pinned Robby Tarvin in only 29 seconds at 184 before the Bullets won the final two bouts of the afternoon.

With two more victories, head coach Bill Racich moved past Drexel's Jack Childs and into sixth place on the all-time NCAA wins list with 513.
