Gundersen, Women's Swimming Win Tri-Meet

YORK, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's swimming team moved its dual-meet winning streak to 51, topping York (Pa.) and St. Mary's (Md.) on Saturday.

The Bears got past York, 115-87, while also beating St. Mary's 160-41.

Senior Sydney Gundersen led the way for the Bears, winning three total golds. She opened the day with a first-place finish in the 50 free (25.35) before following suit in the 500 free (5:23.75). Gundersen capped the day with a win in the 400 free relay (3:40.96), swimming the anchor leg.

Junior Clara Baker and senior Olivia Tierney each came away with a gold in an individual event. Baker took to the top of the podium following the 200 fly (2:12.94), shortly after she swam the anchor leg in the 400 medley relay that won first (4:02.81). She also swam the opening leg of the final event of the day, the 400 free relay. Tierney won gold in the 200 breast (2:28.93), while joining Baker in the 400 medley relay.

Junior Peyton Lyons and senior Meggie Leitz were the other half of the Bears team to win the 400 medley relay. The duo wasn't done there, as they finished second and third in the 200 free, with Leitz (1:59.43) touching the wall less than three second before Lyons (2:02.25). They flip-flopped in the 200 back, as Lyons (2:14.00) finished just before Leitz (2:14.50).

Freshmen Sophie May and Allison Thomas were the second half of the Bears' victory in the 400 free relay. May also made her mark in other events, winning third in the 400 medley relay (4:07.15) – where she was joined by junior Gabriella Timuscuk, senior Katherine Porter and freshman Rebecca Warren – and took second in the 100 free (54.95).

Timuscuk won second in the 200 fly (2:13.38) and the 200 breast (2:30.23) and sophomore Haley Sturla had a pair of third-place finishes – first in the 1000 free (11:20.60), and again in the 200 breast (2:34.47).

Rounding out the top-three finishers for the Bears was the foursome in the 400 free relay. The group of freshmen Madison McHugh and Katherine Kurzinsky and seniors Rachel Weil and Katherine Porter wrapped up the third-place finish in 3:50.08.

The Bears are off until Saturday, November 11, when they travel to McDaniel.
