Men's Swimming Falls to Swarthmore

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Ursinus College men's swimming team competed against No. 25 Swarthmore on Saturday, falling 163-99 in a Centennial Conference dual meet.

Sophomore Jacob Menzer and senior Colin McNamara led the charge for the Bears (4-2, 2-2), as the duo combined for three first-place finishes.

Menzer touched the wall first in the 1000 free (9:52.92) before topping the podium in the 500 free (4:42.26) later in the day.

McNamara placed first in the 200 fly (2:00.91) as the Bears swept the podium in the event. Junior Johnathan Myers touched just behind McNamara with a time of 2:02.03 while his classmate James Callaghan finished third in 2:02.56. Menzer would add a second-place in the 200 IM (2:03.27), where he was followed by freshman Michael Prior, who finished third with a time of 2:04.34.

McNamara added a trio of second-place finishes to his day, with two coming in relay events. McNamara was joined by Prior and juniors Maxwell Coulter and Travis Venables in a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:39.70). McNamara teamed with Venables and sophomores Casey Lear and Jared Krawetz for a second-place result in the 200 free relay. McNamara finished his day with a second-place finish in the 100 fly (54.44).

Prior added also found himself on the podium in the 200 back – where he placed second (1:56.71) – and the 100 back – where he earned a third-place finish (54.48). Lear made his way to the podium three more times before the end of the day, placing second in the 50 free (22.19), 100 free (48.77), and 200 free (1:46.29).

Venables joined Prior on the podium following the 50 free, as he placed third (22.21).

Krawetz added two more top-three finishes to his credit, posting third place performances in the 100 free (49.58) and the 200 free (1:47.59). Senior Christopher Barthold rounded out the top-3 finishers for the Bears, garnering a third-place showing in the 1000 free (10:20.35).

The Bears are back in action Friday and Saturday in West Chester as they compete in the Golden Ram Classic.
