COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Ursinus College wrestling team dropped a close dual-meet match against Alvernia University Tuesday evening 22-16.
Gary Nagle secured a pin at 184lbs, giving Ursinus the lead 16-13 with two matches remaining. The Golden Wolves would tie up the match at the 197lb bout with a decision. Palmer Rodenhaber secured the victory for Alvernia with a pin at 285lbs.
Ursinus started off the meet with a 3-0 lead after Terry Adams secured a 5-4 decision over Alvernia's Keito Shaw at 125lbs.
The Golden Wolves would capture the momentum at the 133lb bout following a 5-3 sudden victory by Anthony Portillo over Romeo Rodriguez. Quinn Tobin would carry the momentum at 141lbs picking up a 7-0 decision over Wesley Tosto. Jason Rezac picked up another decision at 149lbs for Alvernia, giving the Golden Wolves a 9-3 lead after four matches.
Shawn Marchesano tacked on three points for the Bears after winning by decision over Robert Lawlor 4-3. Alvernia would pick up a major decision at 165, after Matthew Lackman defeated Noah Supsic 14-1. With four matches remaining Alvernia led 13-6 heading into the 174lb bout.
Jason Zollers would collect an important major decision for Ursinus at 174 defeating Gavin Hollingsworth 13-5. Gary Nagle would electrify the crowd by pinning Isaac Kassis at the 184lb bout giving Ursinus the lead for the first time since the opening bout, 16-13.
Alvernia answered back, with Tonee Ellis tying up the match score 16-16 with a 10-4 decision over Kyle Schaffer at 197lbs.
With the score tied, Alvernia's heavyweight Palmer Rodenhaber pinned Gavin Range (2:17) to secure the 22-16 victory for the Golden Wolves.
The Bears will return to action December 3rd as they travel to York College for the New Standard Invitational.
