COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College men's wrestling team capitalized on bonus points riding to a 40-9 victory over New Jersey City University on Saturday afternoon from the Floy Lewis Bakes Center.
The Bears won the first four matches and carried the momentum throughout the dual meet winning eight of the ten bouts for their first dual meet victory of the season.
"Outstanding performance today by the men's program, we made a statement today," Director of Wrestling
Joe Jamison said. "When I first started coaching here, we had a vision for what our brand of wrestling will look like. And today, for the first time, we saw it throughout the entire lineup. We're missing a few returning starters, but it didn't matter everyone stepped up and I feel like we have arrived."
Senior
Terry Adams opened the meet at 125lbs and put on a takedown clinic for a 17-2 tech fall over NJCU's Blesson Daniel. Adams picked up four takedowns and three near falls as he improved to 8-2 on the season. At 133lbs, freshman
Michael Adams earned an 8-3 decision over NJCU's Lucas Torre after collecting a late takedown in the first period and capitalizing on a reversal late in the third period to push the match score to 8-0.
Senior
Romeo Rodriguez carried the momentum in the 141lb bout earning a 17-2 tech fall at the 6:05 mark. He pushed his lead to 6-0 with a four-point tilt midway through the first stanza and pushed his lead to ten with a two-on-one tilt later in the period. Leading 10-1 to start the second period, Rodriguez escaped from bottom and a takedown in the third led to the technical fall.
At 149lbs, junior
Dante Monaco trailed 2-1 at the end of the first period but bounced back with a takedown early in the second. The two-point move led to an injury for New Jersey City's Jeff Johnson and resulted in the end of the match. Ursinus led 19-0 in the dual before a forfeit at 157lbs made the score 19-6.
Senior
