DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's wrestling team dropped a 20-16 dual at Delaware Valley University on Wednesday evening from James Work Gymnasium.
Leading 16-10 heading into the final two matches, Delaware Valley used back-to-back pinfalls to capture the victory. With the loss, the Bears fell to 4-6 on the season, meanwhile the Aggies improved to 1-4 on the season.
"Tonight, wasn't our night," Director of Wrestling
Joe Jamison said. "We made a few mistakes and they capitalized. Hats off to them – we'll see them again next weekend and I know we'll learn from tonight."
The match started at 123lbs as it featured a trilogy match, the third meeting between Ursinus'
Kalli Roskos and Delaware Valley's Bridgette Schoultz (2021 National Qualifier). Roskos won the second meeting at the Will Abele Invitational via technical fall, while Schoultz won the first meeting back in November via a 4-2 decision. Roskos earned the first point via shock clock late in the first period as she defended off an offensive attack from Schoultz and held a 1-0 advantage at the end of the first stanza. Schoultz connected on a headlock in the opening minute of the second and earned the fall at the 4:25-mark.
Sophomore
Lauren Gherman (130lbs) earned a forfeit for the Bears to give Ursinus a one point advantage, while sophomore
Laura Bradley (136lbs) collected a victory by injury default giving Ursinus an 11-6 match lead.
For the Aggies, Olivia Kinder tallied a victory by forfeit at 143lbs cutting the match score to 11-10 with three matches remaining. At 155lbs, first-year
Riley Frymoyer defended off a headlock from Delaware Valley's for an early takedown. Frymoyer used a deep half before adjusting for the pinfall at the 0:45-mark to give Ursinus the 16-10 lead.
Jamison speaks on Frymoyer's performance, "It was great to get Riley back in the lineup, she's been working hard to get back on the mat." Delaware Valley clinched the dual in the final two bouts as they earned back-to-back victories by fall to earn the 20-16 dual meet victory.
The Bears will return to action on Sunday, January 29
