COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Behind an impressive team performance, the Ursinus College men's swimming team defeated Dickinson College 121-75 on Saturday afternoon.
With the victory, the Bears improved to 7-2 overall and 4-2 in Centennial Conference action, meanwhile the Red Devils fell to 4-7 on the season and 1-5 in conference play.
The Bears celebrated four seniors on the afternoon as
Ryan Carkhuff,
Ryan Schreffler,
Samuel Taffet, and
Maxwell Valeriano were recognized prior to the meet for their dedication and commitment to the Ursinus College swimming program. Carkhuff took home first-place in the 50 free with a time of 21.57, while Schreffler earned a first-place finish in the 100 back touching the wall at 54.97. Taffet collected a third-place finish in the 400 IM with a time of 4:27.78, while Valeriano recorded a second-place finish in the same race touching the wall at 4:25.95. The four seniors raced together in the final event of the meet, the 400-yard freestyle relay, tallying a time of 3:18.52.
Junior
Jonah Kasznay broke the pool record in the 400 IM finishing with a time of 4:12.67 while recording a second-place finish in the 100 back touching the wall at 55.28. First-year
David McCauley recorded two first-place finishes with a time of 1:46.89 in the 200-yard freestyle and a time of 4:48.71 in the 500-yard freestyle. Classmate
William Cano earned two third-place finishes, recording a time of 22.31 in the 50 free and 48.74 in the 100 free.
Sophomore
Jan Perez-Bonilla recorded two top-four times with a first-place in the 100 fly (54.39) and a fourth-place finish in the 200 free (1:50.62). Fellow sophomore Kevin Soon tallied a second-place finish in the 50 free stopping the timer at 22.27, while junior
Stephen Lyons earned a first-place finish in the 100 free with a time of 47.80.
Sophomore
Jake Klucinec recorded two second-place finishes in the 1000 free (10:24.42) and 100 fly touching the wall at 54.61, while classmate
Dylan Schreffler took second place in the 100 free with a time of 48.68.
The Bears tallied the best time in both relay events as the quartet of Schreffler,
Francesco D'Avella, Lyons, and Carkhuff took first place in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:36.78. In the 400-yard freestyle relay, the quartet of Kasznay,
Dylan Schreffler, Cano, and Sonn recorded the fastest time at 3:14.28.
The Bears return to action on February 16
th as they prepare for the Centennial Conference Championships hosted by Gettysburg College.
