EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's wrestling team opened their 2023 calendar season with a 2-2 record at the Warrior Duals on Sunday afternoon.
The Bears dropped their opening match to No. 9 East Stroudsburg 37-8, before bouncing back with victories over Ferrum College (30-10) and Alvernia (25-15). Ursinus closed out the round robin format falling to Cedar Crest College 21-19.
First-years
Jocelyn Lass (116lbs) and
Kalli Roskos (123lbs) each impressed finishing with a perfect 4-0 record throughout the tournament. Lass earned a big win in her opening match collecting a 6-3 decision over the No. 6 ranked Emily Klein of East Stroudsburg. Roskos recorded her first victory with a 11-1 technical fall over East Stroudsburg's Carmela Cancelmo at the 4:37-mark. She earned three more victories via forfeits over the next three duals, while Lass closed out the tournament with a fall over Adriana Dias of Cedar Crest at the 1:09-mark.
First-year
Riley Frymoyer earned her second pinfall of the season defeating Alvernia's Makayla Marreo-Mogel at the 3:09-mark, while sophomore
Lauren Gherman picked up her first career victory with a 14-1 technical fall over Olivia Horninger of Cedar Crest.
"The women wrestled very well today," Director of Wrestling
Joe Jamison said. "This was a great event coming off the break and we got a few big individual wins. We continue to make great strides and we're very much looking forward to hosting our open tournament next weekend."
The Bears will return to action on Sunday, January 15
th as they host the Will Abele Open from the Floy Lewis Bakes Center.
