LANCASTER, Pa. – The Ursinus College men's swimming team opened their 2023-24 season at the Centennial Conference quad meet featuring Franklin & Marshall, Dickinson College, and Washington College.
The Bears defeated Dickinson College (171-89), and Washington College (150-110), but fell to Franklin & Marshall (168-93) to finish with a 2-1 record.
Junior
Jonah Kasznay and sophomore
David McCauley each recorded two first-place finishes during the meet. Kasznay tallied the top-times in the 200 back (2:00.70) and 200 IM (1:59.92), while earning a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:47.96. McCauley earned the fastest time in the 500-yard freestyle (4:53.84) and 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:06.34.
Sophomore
Francesco D'Avella collected a trio of third place finishes in the 100 back (54.83), 200 back (2:15.07), and 200 IM (2:04.12). Senior
Stephen Lyons recorded the second fastest time in the 100-yard free (48.51) and a third-place honor in the 50 free touching the wall at 21.73. Lyons currently holds the second fastest time in program history for the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.90.
First-year
Jack Giuliana shined in his collegiate debut earning a second-place finish in the 100-fly touching the wall at 53.83. Giuliana also took home a seventh-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.51. Senior
Jake Hennegan took fourth place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:01.44. Meanwhile, junior
Dylan Schreffler tallied the fourth best time during the 100-yard freestyle touching the wall at 48.93.
The Bears took home second place in the 200-yard Medley Relay as the quartet of D'Avella, Hennegan, Giuliana, and Lyons finished with a time of 1:36.76. The team of Giuliana, Schreffler, Lyons, and junior
Kevin Sonn swam the second quickest time in the 400-yard freestyle relay behind a time of 3:16.18.
Ursinus will return to action Saturday, October 28
th as they celebrate Homecoming with their home opener against York College starting at 1 p.m.
