COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's swimming team improved to 3-1 on the season, earning a 122-63 victory over York College during Homecoming on Saturday afternoon.
The Bears opened the dual meet by sweeping the top-two times in the 400-yard medley relay. The quartet of
Molly Stevens,
Katie Barlow,
Melanie Hahn, and
Mimi Norris touched the wall at 4:14.97, while
Morgan Valeriano,
Mia Tamburrino,
Sylvi Lynch, and
Morgan Grabowski earned second-place with a time of 4:20.28.
Ursinus increased their lead during the next event as junior
Emily Carkhuff earned the fastest time in the 1000-yard freestyle touching the wall at 11:20.76. The Bears earned three of the four best times during the 200-yard freestyle, tallying 14 points during the race. Norris (2:02.85) collected the fastest time, sophomore
Sara Bozzomo (2:03.43) took second place, while Stevens placed fourth touching the wall at 2:07.27. Bozzomo later added the best time in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 56.66.
Senior
Melissa Leonard recorded a first-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle, while teammates Lynch (27.61) and Carkhuff (27.83) took third and fourth place, respectively. During the next race, Lynch (1:03.97) followed up with a first-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly, while fellow classmate
Mia Tamburrino (1:05.52) took second place. During the 100-yard backstroke, Ursinus swept the top-three times as Leonard (1:00.77), Stevens (1:04.08), and Carkhuff (1:08.92) outscored York 16-3 in the race.
The Bears closed out the meet with junior
Katie Barlow (5:28.12) taking home first place in the 500-yard freestyle, while first-year
Melanie Hahn finished second with a time of 5:36.59.
The Bears return to action on Friday, November 3
rd as they travel to Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania for a Centennial Conference matchup against Bryn Mawr at 6 p.m.
