Women's Tennis Takes Down Northwestern (MN), 6-3

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Ursinus Women's Tennis team rallied to defeat Northwestern (Minn.) 6-3 on Thursday morning in Florida as they continued their spring break trip.
 
 
With the win, the Bears improved to 6-1 overall and 3-1 for the week down in Orlando. Meanwhile, the Eagles fell to 4-4 overall.
 
 
The Eagles gained the early advantage in the match after winning two of the three doubles matches. The No. 1 Bears doubles team of sophomores Allie Armour and Shannon Stewart fell 8-5 to Annie Orvis and Abby Johnson. Senior Ava Compagnoni and junior Claire Burke dropped an 8-3 decision to Domiano Baideme and Elise Jarchow at the No.2 position before the No. 3 team of junior Avery Samer and first-year Bella Vassalluzzo got Ursinus on the board with an 8-6 win over Taylar Smith and Analise Marquardt.
 
 
 
Armour kept the Bears rally going by winning 6-1, 6-3 over Orvis at the No. 1 position and Samer put the Bears in front with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Jarchow. Smith edged Compagnoni in three sets 1-6, 6-3, 10-6 at No. 5 singles to even the score before first-year Fiona Finnerty defeated Dodge 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 6 position. Finnerty and Vassalluzzo are now a combined 6-0 on the spring break trip. Burke then won a thriller of her own to lock up the match in three sets 6-2, 4-6, 11-9 over Baideme. Stewart put the finishing touches on the win by defeating Johnson 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) at No. 3 singles.
 
 
The Bears close out their Florida trip tomorrow, March 10th as they will take on Otterbein at 3:00 p.m.
