Women's Tennis Battles No. 15 Johns Hopkins on Senior Day

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus Women's Tennis team wrapped up their 2022-23 season on Saturday afternoon at the Ursinus Tennis Courts as they dropped a 9-0 match to No. 15 Johns Hopkins in their final match of the season.
 
 
 
The Bears wrap up their season with a 9-11 record and 1-8 mark in Centennial Conference action. Prior to the contest, the Bears honored its lone senior on the team in Ava Compagnoni. Meanwhile, the Blue Jays improved to 17-3 overall and 9-0 in Centennial action.
 
 
 
The Blue Jays won all three doubles points to take the early 3-0 lead in the match. Compagnoni and first-year Bella Vassalluzzo suffered an 8-3 setback to Niamh Harding and Hallie Gallo at the No. 3 position before juniors Claire Burke and Avery Samer fell 8-2 to Zoe Hsieh and Bea Manjon at No. 2 doubles. Sophomores Allie Armour and Shannon Stewart dropped an 8-5 decision to Celina Liu and Catharina Ausfahl at the No. 1 spot.
 
 
 
In singles, Stewart was downed by Hsieh at the No. 3 position 6-0, 6-1 while Burke suffered a 6-3, 6-2 loss to Harding at No. 2 singles. Samer fell 6-2, 6-4 to Ausfahl at the No. 4 spot and Armour dropped a 6-2, 7-5 (5) decision to Liu at No. 1 singles. Compagnoni was downed 6-2, 6-2 by Manjon at the No. 5 spot while first-year Fiona Finnerty dropped a 6-0, 6-1 match to Gallo at No. 6 singles.
