DALLAS, Pa. – It came down to the final relay race, but unfortunately the Ursinus College women's swimming team fell to Misericordia University on Saturday afternoon, 130-128.
 

The Bears opened with a second-place relay finish in the 200-yard medley relay as the quartet of senior Melissa Leonard, junior Katie Barlow, first-year Morgan Valeriano, and sophomore Sara Bozzomo combined for a time of 1:56.09.
 

Leonard followed up with the top-time in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:34.75 and later added the best time in the 200 back, touching the wall at 2:09.97. During the next event, Barlow took first place in the 200-yard freestyle tallying a time of 2:00.24. She later added a second-place nod in the 200 breast with a time of 2:37.50, while first-year Mimi Norris (2:03.47) took third in the 200 free, and junior Emily Carkhuff (2:06.97) finished fourth.
 

During the next race, Valeriano added a first-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.32, while classmate Mia Tamburrino collected a third-place nod in the 100-yard breaststroke touching the wall at 1:15.97. In the 200-yard butterfly, the Bears collected two of the top-three times as first-year Sylvi Lynch (2:22.32) took first and junior Molly Stevens placed third (2:26.76). Stevens (1:03.23) and Lynch (1:05.60) added second and third place finishes in the 100-yard butterfly as well.
 
 
Valeriano added the second fastest time in the 200-yard backstroke (2:15.06), while Carkhuff (5:37.56), and Bozzomo (5:37.80) earned second and third place I the 500-yard freestyle, respectively. In the final race, the quartet of Barlow, Norris, Lynch, and Hahn earned the fastest time in the 200-yard freestyle, touching the wall at 1:43.12.
 

The Bears will return to action on Saturday, January 27^th as they host Stevens University to celebrate Senior Day at 1 p.m.
