COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College men's wrestling won nine of the ten bouts en route to dominant 39-3 victory over Johns Hopkins on Friday evening from the Floy Lewis Bakes Center.
The Bears won of the final six matches including pinfalls at 184lbs and 197lbs for their ninth consecutive Centennial Conference victory. With the victory, Ursinus improves to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in conference action, meanwhile the Blue Jays fall to 2-5 on the season and 0-2 in conference play.
"Everyone competed really well tonight and we took care of business," Director of Wrestling
Joe Jamison said. "We knew there was going to be a few tough matches and when you're constantly looking to score points while maintaining good position, the results will sometimes take care of themselves. I am proud of these guys and how they handled this stretch. We're going to take the weekend off and then get ready for Muhlenberg on Thursday."
The Bears received forfeits at 125lbs and 141lbs, while first-year
Evan Shriberg won his second consecutive match with a 17-12 decision over Dhilan Patel for the Blue Jays. Junior

Andrew Schaen were the Bears to receive forfeits allowing Ursinus to jump out to an early 15-0 lead. In the 133lb bout, Shriberg fought off a few deep attacks from Patel before capitalizing and earning the opening takedown of the match. Later in the period, Shriberg added his second takedown and ended the first stanza with a 7-4 lead. Patel battled back in the later periods fighting off a major decision, but the lead proved to be too large as Shriberg won 17-12.
At 149lbs, the Blue Jays earned their lone victory of the night as Freddy Pimental used a late takedown in the third period to defeat senior
Dante Monaco 7-5. The Bears quickly answered as
Nick Lattanze collected a 7-1 victory at 157lbs over Connor Powell and senior
Shawn Marchesano used a comeback to defeat Jake Hoffmann 4-2. Trailing 2-1 with under a minute remaining in the period, Marchesano defended off a shot from Hoffmann and capitalized while in a defensive position to earn a three-point takedown and the comeback victory.
First-year
Sean Cowan carried the momentum into the 174lb bout picking up the Bears third straight victory via a 5-1 decision to give Ursinus a 24-3 match lead. At 184lbs, first-year Max Borton recorded the first bonus point victory of the night with a first-period pinfall over Samuel Gledhill at the 1:13-mark. After nearly allowing the opening takedown, Borton capitalized on arm-bar and turned his opponent for his 13
th consecutive victory on the season and locking up the dual for the Bears.
Sophomore
Nils Updale followed up at 197lbs recording a first period fall over Johns Hopkins' Jack Dunn just before the two-minute mark of the period. Updale tailed the opening takedown before gathering a near-sided cradle on his second takedown attempt and earning the fall. Senior
Jake Ahmad capped off the night with a stellar showing at 285lbs recording a 7-0 decision over Jacob Pomykata to give Ursinus a 39-3 victory. Ahmad collected a pair of takedowns during the battle and improved his season record to 10-7.
The Bears return to action on Thursday, February 1
st as they travel to Allentown, Pennsylvania for a Centennial Conference dual-meet against Muhlenberg College at 7 p.m.
