COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Behind a dominating afternoon, the Ursinus College women's swimming team earned a 149-108 victory over Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon.
The Bears honored three seniors prior to the meet as
Morgan Grabowski,
Melissa Leonard, and
Erica Locke were recognized prior to the contest for their dedication and commitment to the Swimming program over the last four years.
Ursinus earned event victories in 11 of the 14 events including each of the two relay races that took place. In the opening event, first-year Moran Valeriano, junior
Katie Barlow, junior
Molly Stevens, and first-year
Mimi Norris combined for a time of 1:53.66 in the 200-yard medley relay which was the fastest time of the day.
Barlow followed up with a first-place nod in the 1000 freestyle (10:58.03), while teammates
Emily Carkhuff (11:13.86) and sophomore
Sara Bozzomo (11:34.11) placed second and third, respectively. Barlow also added the quickest time in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:35.77), while Bozzomo added third-place finishes in the 500 free (5:33.10) and 100 free (55.83).
Leonard paced the Bears lineup with a total of three first-place times behind the top-times in the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.89), 200 back (2:08.33), and 500-yard freestyle (5:17.80). Ursinus earned the top-three times in the 200 freestyle as first-year
Melanie Hahn (2:01.37) placed second and Norris (2:02.99) took third for the Bears. Later in the dual, Hahn earned the fastest time in the 50 free (25.72), while Norris placed third with a time of 26.56.
In the fourth event of the day, Valeriano recorded the top time in the 100-yard backstroke touching the wall at 1:00.35, while Stevens took third with a time of 1:03.11. Valeriano later added the quickest time in the 100 free (55.60), while Stevens added the second fastest time in the 100 fly touching the wall at 1:02.56.
The Bears locked up the dual-meet victory prior to the final relay race, but still recorded the fastest time as Bozzomo, Hahn, Norris, and Leonard combined for a time of 3:44.08.
First-year
Mia Tamburrino collected a second-place nod in the 100-yard breaststroke, while classmate
Sylvi Lynch added a second-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:18.79.
The Bears return to action on Saturday, February 3
rd as they travel to Gettysburg College for their season finale before the Centennial Conference Championships on February 22
