COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College men's wrestling team opened their 2024 calendar season with a 3-1 record while hosting the annual Manganaro Duals on Saturday from the Floy Lewis Bakes Center.
Ursinus opened with three consecutive victories over Messiah University (25-16), York College (29-16), and Shippensburg University (35-14), before dropping the finale to Trinity College (26-18).
First-years
Sean Cowan (174lbs) and Max Borton (184lbs) each finished with perfect 4-0 records on the day, while seniors
Shawn Marchesano (165lbs),
Jake Ahmad (285lbs), and sophomore
Nils Updale (197lbs) each finished with 3-1 records in their respective weight classes.
"The coaching staff is really pleased with how we competed today," Director of Wrestling
Joe Jamison said. "We keep getting better every week and it was a lot of fun to field two teams and get everyone some competition. Obviously, there is going to be some things that we need to clean up, but the energy and effort is there, and the guys are making adjustments. It would have been great to put a stamp on the day by pulling out the last dual against Trinity, but they are a tough team and we let it slip away. I'm proud of how we battled back though."
