COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's wrestling team hosted their first annual Ursinus Duals tournament and finished with a perfect 3-0 mark to open the New Year.
 
The Bears won each of their respective matches with victories over Marymount University (40-4), D'Youville University (24-16), and York College (28-15).
 

"Today was a great day at our first annual Ursinus Duals and I'm proud of how the women competed," Director of Wrestling Joe Jamison said. "This was the first event in which we had our full lineup, and the results speak for themselves. We continue to get better every week and we look forward to hosting the Will Abele Women's Open next week."

 
Ursinus 40, Marymount 4

The Bears rolled to a decisive decision in their opening match, winning eight of the nine bouts with all eight of the victories coming via bonus points or forfeits. After three matches, Ursinus controlled a 10-0 lead as first-year Mandy Gavares (101lbs) earned a forfeit and sophomore Jocelyn Lass recorded a fall at 116lbs. Sophomore Kalli Roskos (123lbs) collected a forfeit while first-year Stacy Bloomfield followed up with a pinfall at 130lbs to give Ursinus a 20-0 lead halfway through the dual. The Bears received four victories via forfeits over the final five bouts and rolled to a 40-4 victory. During an extra match, Gavares earned a victory by technical superiority over Marymount's Alexis Deagle via a 14-4 decision.

During their second dual of the day, Ursinus jumped to an early 10-0 lead after three bouts as Gavares (101lbs) and Lass (116lbs) received forfeits at their respective weight classes. The Bears extended their lead to 19-0 at the midway point of the dual as Roskos (123lbs) earned a victory via technical superiority (10-0) and Bloomfield tallied a forfeit at 130lbs. D'Youville battled back over the remaining five bouts, recording four victories but a victory by decision (6-4) from first-year Emma Matera (155lbs) clinched the match for Ursinus. In an exhibition match, first-year Madyson Hickman (130lbs) collected a 6-4 decision for the Bears.

Ursinus 28, York 15

The Bears trailed after the opening bout, but four straight victories gave Ursinus control of the match as they won six of the nine matches in route to a 28-15 victory. The Spartans opened with a victory by fall at 109lbs, before a forfeit at 116lbs tied the match at five apiece. The Bears carried the momentum into the next two bouts as Roskos (123lbs) and Bloomfield (130lbs) each earned victories by technical superiority to give Ursinus a 13-5 lead. During the 136lb bout, first-year Paisley Fox earned a second period fall over York's Naylee Ierley to extend the Bears lead to 18-5 with four matches remaining. After a fall for York at 143lbs, the Bears bounced back with a pinfall from Matera at 155lbs and first-year Gianna Perez collected a forfeit to clinch the match and give Ursinus the 28-15 victory.
