Men's Swimming Takes on York

YORK, Pa. – The Ursinus College men's swimming battled on Saturday afternoon, but eventually fell 120-85 against York College.
 

With the defeat Ursinus moves to 0-4 to open the season, while the Spartans improved to 2-0 overall. The Bears opened the meet by placing second in the 400-yard medley relay as the quarter of junior Francesco D'Avella, first-year Evan Wagner, senior Jan Perez-Bonilla, and first-year Josh Travers combined for a time of 3:42.98.
 

Next, senior Jake Klucinec placed third in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:00.54, while sophomore Adam Denn added a fifth-place nod (11:49.51). During the 200-yard freestyle, seniors Dylan Schreffler (1:49.57) and Perez-Bonilla (1:49.94) added third and fourth-place finishes, respectively.

 
Ursinus collected three of the top-four times in the 50-yard freestyle as senior Kevin Sonn (2nd, 21.55), sophomore Jack Giuliana (3rd, 21.83), and junior David McCauley (4th, 22.61) combined for nine team points for Ursinus. Giuliana added a second-place nod in the 100-yard butterfly finishing with a time of 52.40. The Bears added their first event victory during the 400-yard IM as senior Jonah Kasznay touched the wall at 4:24.78, which ranked nearly 15 seconds faster then the next swimmer. Kasznay later added the top-time in the 500-yard freestyle (4:54.42), while D'Avella placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke behind a time of 59.90.
 

Senior Kevin Sonn shined in the 100-yard freestyle, placing second behind a time of 48.66 which ranks just shy of his career best time of 46.89 that occurred at the Centennial Conference Championships last season. Ursinus closed out the meet by finishing second in the 400-yard freestyle relay as the quartet of Kasznay, Schreffler, Sonn, and Giuliana combined for a final time of 3:13.92.

 
The Bears will return to action on Saturday, November 2nd as they host Widener University for a non-conference matchup starting at 1 p.m. from Elliott Pool.
