COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's wrestling team opened their 2024-25 season dual meet slate by sweeping their tri-match defeating Cedar Crest (42-5) and Misericordia University (40-5) on Sunday afternoon from the Floy Lewis Bakes Center.
 
 
The Bears cruised to their victories over the Falcons and Cougars behind five victories by fall in each dual and open their dual meet schedule with a 2-0 record. 
 
Ursinus 42, Cedar Crest 5
 
The Falcons opened the meet with a victory by forfeit at 101lbs, but Ursinus responded with nine straight victories enroute to the decision. The run started at 110lbs as sophomore Mandy Gavares bumped up a weight class and opened the scoring with a blast double during the opening minute. Gavares added a string of takedowns enroute to the victory via technical superiority to cut the Bears deficit to 5-4. Next, first-year Olivia Guy collected a first-period fall over Cedar Crest's Melanie Val to give Ursinus a 9-5 match lead. During a scramble, Guy connected on a half and adjusted her positioning for the pinfall at the 2:10-mark of the opening frame.
 
Junior Kalli Roskos (124lbs) and sophomore Stacy Bloomfield (131lbs) carried the momentum into the next two bouts as they recorded victories by technical superiority to extend the Bears' match lead to 17-5. Next, first-year Emma Sagi tallied a 48-second fall at 138lbs, while sophomore Paisley Fox (145lbs) pinned her opponent at the 1:50-mark to extend the Ursinus lead to 27-5. Sophomores Emma Matera (160lbs) and Gianne Perez (180lbs) closed out the dual meet with victories by fall, while first-year Evette Colon (207lbs) added a victory by forfeit to give Ursinus a 42-5 meet victory.
 
Ursinus 40, Misericordia 5
 
Against Misericordia, Sagi led off with a 28-second fall over Madelyne Stultz to give Ursinus an early 5-0 advantage. During the match, Sagi gained the opening score with a snapdown before running a power half for the first-period fall. Moments later, Fox followed suit with a 12-second fall to increase the Bears lead to 10. At 160lbs, Matera recorded the Bears' third consecutive first period fall with a 44-second pin over Misericordia's Maya Landefeld to give Ursinus a 15-0 match lead. The Cougars tallied the first victory at 180lbs, but Ursinus responded with a pinfall from Colon at 207lbs, and a forfeit at 103lbs from Gavares to extend their advantage to 25-5.

Guy (117lbs) and Roskos (124lbs) each added victories by forfeits at their respective weight classes, while Bloomfield closed out the meet with a fall at the 1:17-mark to give Ursinus a 40-5 dual victory. First-year Kylie Wright shined in her two exhibition matches by earning first-period pinfalls during each bout. 
 
The Bears return to action on Saturday, November 16th as they host New England College for a dual meet starting at noon.
