COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – It came down to the final race, as the Ursinus College men's swimming team fell by a score of 132-130 against Widener University on Saturday afternoon from the William Elliott Pool.
The Bears placed second and third in the 400-yard medley relay as the quartet of senior
Jonah Kasznay, junior
Francesco D'Avella, sophomore
Jack Giuliana, and senior
Kevin Sonn took second with a time of 3:36.36.
Senior
Jonah Kasznay followed up with a first-place nod in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:07.92), while sophomore
Daniel Salimov took third with a time of 11:08.73. Kasznay also added the top-times in the 200-yard IM (1:59.30) and 500-yard freestyle (4:55.73) to lead Ursinus with three event victories. Next, senior
Dylan Schreffler totaled four points for the Bears with a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.99) with classmate tallying
Jake Klucinec finishing fourth with a time of 1:52.78. Later on, in the 100-yard freestyle, Schreffler claimed the fastest time by tallying a total time of 48.14.
First-year
Josh Travers placed second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.21, while D'Avella (1:00.55) and first-year
Evan Wagner (1:03.20) took first and third place in the 100-yard breaststroke, respectively. Sonn added the top-time in the 50-yard freestyle, while junior
David McCauley placed third with a time of 22.88.
The Bears recorded the fastest time in the 200-yard freestyle relay as the quartet of Giuliana, Schreffler, Sonn, and McCauley totaled a time of 1:28.00. Unfortunately, Widener totaled six points and the deciding two points via a third-place finish for the dual meet victory.
The Bears will return to action on Saturday, November 9th as they travel to Westminster, Maryland for a tri-meet against McDaniel College and Juniata College at 1 p.m.
