COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Behind an all-around effort, the Ursinus College women's swimming team cruised to a 166-94 victory over Widener University on Saturday afternoon from the William Elliott Pool.
The Bears won 12 of the 14 events including each of the relay races enroute to the victory. Ursinus opened the meet by winning the 400-yard medley relay as the quartet of sophomore
Morgan Valeriano, sophomore
Melanie Hahn, senior
Molly Stevens, and junior
Sara Bozzomo combined for a time of 4:11.27.
Next, senior
Katie Barlow added a first-place nod in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:13.77), before placing second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.84) and first in the 500-yard free (5:29.65). Classmate
Emily Carkhuff took second in the 1000 free by touching the wall at 5:36.66 and later added a second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:36.66.
Sophomore
Melanie Hahn shined in the 200-yard freestyle as she touched the wall at 2:01.52, just ahead of Widener's Megan Shallow's time of 2:01.67. First-year
Haley Lenker added a fourth-place nod in the 200 free with a time of 2:13.24. During the seventh event, a pair of seniors earned the top-two times Stevens (1:03.45) and
Alexandra Zelinske (1:03.83) placed first and second in the 100-yard backstroke, respectively.
Sophomore
Morgan Valeriano (1:11.14) and Barlow added the two fastest times in the 100-yard breaststroke, while sophomore
Mia Tamburrino placed fourth with a time of 1:15.50. Bozzomo placed first in the 50-yard freestyle, while first-year
Maria Wehmeyer took fourth touching the wall at 27.55. Later on, Valeriano collected a first-place nod in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:35.26), while Stevens (1:03.53) and Valeriano (1:03.72) earned second and third place finishes in the 100-yard butterfly, respectively.
Ursinus closed out the meet by recording the fastest time in the 200-yard freestyle relay as the quartet of Barlow, Bozzomo, Zelinske, and Wehmeyer totaled a time of 1:43.78.
The Bears will return to action on Saturday, November 9th as they travel to Westminster, Maryland for a tri-meet against McDaniel College and Juniata College at 1 p.m.
