Women's Wrestling Debuts at Gator Boots Duals

HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. – The Ursinus College women's wrestling team wrapped up their first ever debut at the Gator Boot Duals finishing with a 2-3 record on Friday evening.

The Bears competed in the first ever Women's Gator Boot Duals as Luther College and Hendersonville High School has been hosting the tournament since 2013. Ursinus opened with a 33-15 victory over Huntingdon College, before dropping consecutive contests to Simpson College (27-19) and Emmanuel University (39-7). In their final two bouts, the Bears defeated Cornell College, 30-15, and fell in a rematch against Simpson, 46-3. Sophomore Stacy Bloomfield highlighted the Bears' tournament by finishing with a perfect 5-0 record including earning a victory by fall and technical superiority. Finishing with a 2-3 record on the day, Ursinus now sits at 5-4 overall in dual meets this season.

"We wrestled pretty tough today even though we were shorthanded," Director of Wrestling Joe Jamison said. "This was a great event for us to see some of the top teams in the country from the Midwest. It's a great measuring stick to see where we're at and where we need to improve. We will not shy away from tough competition and in the long run this event will make us much better competitors. The team will get a much deserved break before getting back out there for the second semester."

The Bears fell behind in their opening dual as the Hawks earned back-to-back forfeits at 103 and 110lbs to gain an early 10-0 advantage. Ursinus quickly responded with a first-period pin from first-year Olivia Guy (117lbs) and victory by forfeit from junior Kalli Roskos (124lbs) evened the score at 10 apiece. The Bears carried the momentum over the remainder of the dual as they collected five straight bonus point victories enroute to the 33-15 victory. Sophomores Stacy Bloomfield (131lbs) and Emma Matera (180lbs) each recorded victories by technical superiority, while sophomores Paisley Fox (145lbs), Gianna Perez (180lbs), and first-year Emma Sagi (138lbs) each tallied first period pins for Ursinus.
