COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's wrestling team battled but were eventually upended 38-9 on Sunday afternoon by No. 8 Lock Haven University.
The Bald Eagles currently have two wrestlers ranked within the top-ten in the country of their respective weight class and improved to 10-4 overall with the victory. Meanwhile, the Bears closed out the regular season with a 7-4 overall dual record.
"The women battled today," Director of Wrestling
Joe Jamison said. "Lock Haven is a tough team, and we didn't back down. We've made huge strides this season and we're looking forward to showing everyone in our region what we're capable of."
The Bald Eagles jumped out to an early 15-0 lead through three matches after recording a pinfall at 101lbs and forfeits at 109lbs and 116lbs. Sophomore
Kalli Roskos got the Bears on the board at 123lbs, as she collected a come from behind 3-1 victory over Lock Haven's Jayleah Pletz. Roskos trailed 1-0 entering the final stanza, but recorded a point from passivity and a two-point takedown to gain a 3-1 lead. With less than a minute remaining, Pletz was in deep on a single leg, but a great defensive adjustment allowed Roskos to scoot behind for the takedown.
The Bald Eagles extended their lead to 23-5 over the next two bouts as first-year
Stacy Bloomfield (130lbs) fell by a 11-2 decision and first-year
Paisley Fox (136lbs) fell via a 15-4 technical superiority.
At 143lbs, first-year
Cloe Charlesworth responded with a 10-0 technical superiority to make the match score 23-9. Within the opening minute, Charlesworth connected on an inside leg trip before adjusting to a leg-lace to extend her lead to 4-0. After each wrestler restarted in neutral, Charlesworth defended off a deep low single leg and was awarded two more exposure points after rolling her opponent. She later added another takedown and two exposure points en route to the 10-0 technical superiority victory.
Unfortunately, the Bald Eagles were awarded five points from an injury default at 155lbs and a medical forfeit at 170lbs to extend their lead to 33-9. In the final match, Lock Haven's Trinity Monaghan earned a first-period fall over first-year
