GETTYSBURG, Pa. –The Ursinus College women's swimming team were upended by Gettysburg College on Saturday afternoon in their season finale, 55-202.
The Bears opened the meet with a fourth-place finish in the 200-medley relay, as the quartet of junior
Katie Barlow, first-year
Morgan Valeriano, first-year
Melanie Hahn, and sophomore
Sara Bozzomo combined for a time of 1:55.10. Luckily in the next event the 1000-yard Freestyle, junior
Emily Carkhuff pulled through in second place with a final time of 11:20.57 with senior
Erica Locke coming in close behind in fourth place touching the wall at 12:09.25. Ursinus landed another second and fourth placement in the 200-yard Freestyle with senior Missy Leonard placing second with a time of 1:57.08 and junior
Katie Barlow earning fourth place with a time of 2:00.03. Bozzomo, although not in the top four, placed sixth with a time of 2:02.97.
Junior
Molly Stevens earned a fourth-place nod in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:02.96, while two first-years collected top-five times in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Morgan Valeriano placed third with a time of 1:12.30 and
Mia Tamburrino who finished fifth touched the wall at 1:14.88. First-year
Mimi Norris (26.03) and senior
Morgan Grabowski (27.03) earned spots within the top-six during the 50-yard Freestyle. In the following 100-yard Freestyle event, first-year
Melanie Hahn swam into fourth place with a time of 55.35 and Bozzomo was not too far behind with a time of 56.41, earning her fifth.
Senior
Erica Locke and junior
Emily Carkhuff both just managed to nab fifth place in their respective events. Locke in 200-yard Backstroke with a time of 2:34.98 and Carkhuff in 200-yard Breaststroke with a time of 2:52.20. Ursinus earned their first win of the day in the 500 Yard Freestyle event with senior
Melissa Leonard slicing through the waters and landing the top-time touching the wall at 5:12.85. Valeriano added a top-three time in the 100-yard Butterfly with a time of 1:01.28 that landed her placing third, while Stevens touched the wall just after Valeriano giving her fourth place and a time of 1:02.71.
In the 100-yard IM, Leonard swam into third place with a time of 1:02.78 with Hahn and classmate
Sylvi Lynch placing sixth and seventh, respectively. During the final event, the 400-yard Freestyle Relay, Ursinus College placed third thanks to quartet of Barlow, Norris, Stevens, and Lynch finishing with a final time of 3:49.99. Ursinus also managed to take sixth with the relay team consisting of Carkhuff, Garbowski, Locke, and Tamburrino combining for a time of 4:06.94.
The Bears will rest up and prepare for the Centennial Conference Championships starting on February 22
nd at Gettysburg College.
