COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus women's tennis team dropped hard-fought 5-4 match to Washington College in Centennial Conference action on a beautiful Tuesday afternoon at the Bailey Tennis Courts.
Ursinus won two of the three points in doubles action to gain the early advantage into singles. Following a forfeit at No. 3 doubles that gave a win to sophomore
Bella Vassalluzzo and first-year
Julia Nitz, the first-year duo of
Caroline Daly and
Morgan Coupe dropped an 8-1 decision at the No. 2 spot to Piper Sartison and Isabella Sorhegui. Junior
Allie Armour and senior
Avery Samer valiantly fought off six match points to outlast Eva Kading and Soleil Namunyola for a thrilling 8-7 win at No. 1 doubles.
However, the Shorewomen won five of the six singles matches to earn the win. Coupe got a forfeit win at No. 6 singles and sophomore
Fiona Finnerty was downed 2-6, 0-6 by Carrie Lord at the No. 5 spot. Sophomore Katie Rubinkam lost a 1-6, 0-6 match to Sartison at the No. 3 position and Daly dropped a 0-6, 0-6 No. 4 singles match to Sohegui. Samer suffered a 1-6, 1-6 setback to Namunyola at No. 2 singles that clinched it for the Shorewomen, but Armour won a hard-fought 4-6, 6-2, 10-2 match over Kading at the No. 1 spot to end the match on a high note.
The Bears return to action on Saturday, April 13th as they will face No. 23 Swarthmore at 10:00 a.m. in Centennial Conference play.
