COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's wrestling team opened their 2025 schedule finishing with a 2-1 record while hosting the Ursinus Duals on Sunday from the Floy Lewis Bakes Fieldhouse.
The Bears opened with back-to-back victories over Felician University (26-11) and D'Youville University (31-10), before falling in their finale, 24-23, against Yok College. Junior
Kalli Roskos (124lbs), sophomores
Stacy Bloomfield (131lbs),
Paisley Fox (145lbs), and
Emma Matera (160lbs) all each finished with perfect 3-0 records on the day.
"I'm really proud of how the women competed today," Director of Wrestling
Joe Jamison said. "We were a little shorthanded but battled every step of the way. We're young and still figuring out what our brand of wrestling looks like, but I believe that we got a lot closer to that today and we need to it more consistently."
Ursinus 26, Felician University 11
The dual started with a double forfeit at 101lbs, while a fall for the visitors gave them an early 5-0 advantage heading into the 117lb bout. First-year
Olivia Guy (117lbs) regained the momentum for the Bears with a 15-4 victory by technical superiority over Karley Perrini. Next, Roskos recorded a 5-0 decision at 124lbs, while a 10-0 victory from Bloomfield (131lbs) gave Ursinus an 11-6 lead at the halfway point. At 138lbs, first-year
Emma Sagi tallied a fall at the 1:29-mark while a victory by forfeit from Fox increased the Bears lead to 21-6. Matera shined at 160lbs as she delivered the quickest fall of the day with a 12-second pin to clinch the dual and give Ursinus a 26-6 advantage.
Ursinus 31, D'Youville University 10
Sophomore
Mandy Gavares (103lbs) gave Ursinus an early lead to open their second dual as a victory by forfeit gave the Bears a 5-0 advantage. Ursinus carried the momentum as they won six consecutive matches from 117lbs through 160lbs to gain a 30-2 lead. Guy earned a victory by a first-period injury default, while Roskos edged D'Youville's Alexis Brua via a 7-6 decision. Next, Bloomfield picked up an 8-4 decision at 131lbs, while consecutive falls from Sagi (138lbs) and Fox (145lbs) increased the Bears lead to 26-2. At 160lbs, Matera collected an 11-0 technical superiority over Zoey Kip, but D'Youville closed out the meet with a victory by forfeit and decision resulting in the 31-10 score.
Ursinus 23, York College 24
Ursinus carried the momentum into their final dual as Gavares opened with a fall over Chloe Gross at the 1:00-mark. The Spartans responded with a victory by forfeit and fall to regain a 10-5 advantage heading into the 124lb bout. The Bears tied the match at 10 apiece as Roskos earned a forfeit at 124lbs, while Bloomfield remained unbeaten with a 10-0 technical superiority over Jada Stoneberg. York earned a 10-9 decision at 138lbs to cut the Bears lead to 15-13, before a 17-11 decision from Fox at 145lbs gave Ursinus an 18-14 advantage with three bouts remaining. At 160lbs, Matera earned a fall at the 1:03-mark to extend the Bears advantage to 23-14, but a forfeit and a fall at 180lbs and 207lbs resulted in a 24-23 victory for the visitors.
The Bears will return to action on Saturday, January 18th as they host the Will Abele Open at 10 a.m. from the Floy Lewis Bakes Fieldhouse.
