COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College men's swimming team won 12 of the 14 races enroute to a 159-93 victory over Misericordia University on Saturday afternoon.
Ursinus opened with the top-two times in the 200-yard medley relay as the quartet of first-year
Josh Travers, senior
Kevin Sonn, sophomore
Jack Giuliana, and junior
David McCauley combined for a time of 1:38.90. Next, in the 1000-yard freestyle, senior
Jake Klucinec earned an event victory with a time of 10:40.38.
The Bears carried the momentum into the next event as senior
Dylan Schreffler placed first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.91), while Travers added the quickest time in the 50-yard backstroke by touching the wall at 25.82. Junior
Francesco D'Avella extended the Bears lead by finishing with a first-place nod in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 27.53. D'Avella later added the top-time in the 100-yard backstroke by sounding the timer with a time of 55.72, while Sonn took first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.12).
Next, the Bears collected the fastest two times in the 100-yard butterfly as Giuliana (52.69) and senior
Jan Perez-Bonilla (55.52) placed first and second, respectively. During the 50-yard freestyle, Ursinus earned the top three times as Sonn (21.92), McCauley (23.48), and first-year
Evan Wagner (23.93) swept the podium for the Bears. McCauley collected the top-time in the 500-yard freestyle (4:58.48) with Perez-Bonilla placing second with a time of 5:11.95.
Sophomore
Daniel Salimov recorded the top-time in the 400-yard IM (4:40.17), while classmate
Adam Denn placed fourth by touching the wall at 4:52.73. In the final event, the grouping of Travers, Sonn, Giuliana, and Schreffler combined for a time of 1:29.04 to win the 200-yard freestyle relay.
The Bears will return to action on Saturday, January 25th as they travel to Hoboken, New Jersey for a non-conference matchup against Stevens University.
