COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Sophomore
Morgan Valeriano won three events for the Ursinus College women's swimming team as they fell against Misericordia University, 151-110, on Saturday afternoon.
Valeriano collected event victories in the 400-yard IM (4:44.91), 100-yard freestyle (55.30), and 100 butterfly (1:01.72). The Bears opened with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay as the quartet Valeriano, senior
Katie Barlow, sophomore
Melanie Hahn, and junior
Sara Bozzomo combined for a time of 1:55.49.
Next, senior
Emily Carkhuff (11:19.22) and sophomore
Sylvi Lynch (11:45.05) earned second and third place finishes in the 1000-yard freestyle. During the 200-yard freestyle, Hahn (2:02.79) recorded the second fastest time, while Barlow (2:02.84) finished just behind in third place. Ursinus continued the trend as they earned two of the top-three times in each of the next two races, the 50-yard backstroke and 50-yard breaststroke. Senior
Alexandra Zelinske (29.90) and first-year
Haley Lenker (30.69) teamed up in the 50 back, while sophomore
Mia Tamburrino (35.04) and Lynch (36.91) placed second and third in the 50 breast.
Valeriano collected her second victory of the day in the 100-yard butterfly, while senior
Molly Stevens placed second by touching the wall at 1:02.28. Junior
Sara Bozzomo followed up with a second-place nod in the 50-yard behind a time of 25.77, while Zelinske placed second in the 100-yard backstroke by touching the wall at 1:04.30.
In the 500-yard freestyle, Bozzomo placed second by finishing with a time of 5:30.27 with Barlow finishing third overall behind a time of 5:32.32. Valeriano collected her final victory in the 400-yard IM (4:44.91), while Hahn earned the second fastest time by touching the wall at 4:54.29. The Bears took second in the 200-yard freestyle relay as the quartet of Bozzomo, Zelinske, Barlow, and Stevens combined for a time of 1:44.51.
The Bears will return to action on Saturday, January 25th as they travel to Hoboken, New Jersey for a non-conference matchup against Stevens University.
