Men's Swimming Outpaced by Stevens in Road Dual Meet

HOBOKEN, N.J. – Senior Jonah Kasznay won three individual events leading the Ursinus College men's swimming team as they fell, 153-108, on Saturday afternoon against Stevens Institute of Technology.
 

Kasznay earned event victories in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:01.08), 500-yard freestyle (4:53.16), and 200-yard IM (2:01.97) as the Bears won five events during the dual. Ursinus opened with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay as the quartet of first-year Josh Travers, senior Kevin Sonn, sophomore Jack Giuliana, and senior Dylan Schreffler combined for a time of 1:39.12.

 
Kasznay earned his opening event victory in the 1000-yard freestyle, while classmate Jake Klucinec placed third with a time of 10:38.01. Ursinus followed up with the top-two times in the 200-yard freestyle as junior David McCauley (1:48.89) won the event and Schreffler placed second by touching the wall at 1:49.77.

 
In the next event, the 100-yard backstroke, Travers touched the wall at 57.49 just shy of his career best time of 54.61. Travers later earned the third fastest time in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:08.88. Classmate Evan Wagner collected third place finishes in the 100 (1:03.84) and 200-yard breaststroke events (2:25.89).

 
Ursinus totaled two of the top-three times in the 200-yard butterfly as senior Jan Perez-Bonilla (2:03.94) and Giuliana (2:04.13) placed second and third, respectively. Next in the 50-yard freestyle, Sonn powered to a first-place nod behind a time of 21.99, just shy of his career best time of 21.08. During his next race, the 100-yard freestyle, Sonn placed third with a time of 49.19. He finished just behind Stevens' Will Stilbor who touched the wall at 49.18.

 
The Bears recorded the top-three times in the 500-yard freestyle as the trio of Kasznay (4:53.16), McCauley (5:11.13), and Klucinec (5:11.84) swept the podium. Ursinus closed out the meet with a second-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay as the quartet of Giuliana, Schreffler, Perez-Bonilla, and Sonn stopped the timer at 3:17.79.
 
 
The Bears return to action on Saturday, February 1st as they host Gettysburg College to celebrate Senior Day starting at 1 p.m.
