HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Ursinus College women's swimming team closed out their non-conference dual meet schedule by falling to Stevens Institute of Technology, 177-84 on Saturday afternoon.
Senior
Katie Barlow and sophomore
Melanie Hahn paced the Bears lineup by each earning individual event victories during the meet. Ursinus opened with a third-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay as the quartet of sophomore
Morgan Valeriano, senior
Molly Stevens, Hahn, and junior
Sara Bozzomo combined for a time of 1:56.83.
Next, Barlow collected a second-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle by touching the wall at 11:11.28, while Valeriano added the second fastest time in the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.01). In the 100-yard backstroke, Stevens recorded a time of 1:02.95 to finish third, while senior
Alexandra Zelinske placed fifth by touching the wall at 1:05.10.
Sophomore
Sylvi Lynch tallied a second-place nod in the 200-yard butterfly (2:21.96) with Hahn taking fourth behind a time of 2:26.91. Next, Bozzomo earned a time of 26.15 to finish third in the 50-yard freestyle, while Barlow took fourth by touching the wall at 26.36. Bozzomo added her second runner-up finish in the 100-yard freestyle earning a time of 56.49, which ranks just shy of her career best time of 53.07.
The Bears collected two of the top-three times in the 200-yard backstroke as Valeriano (2:14.50) and first-year
Maria Wehmeyer (2:24.59) placed second and third, respectively. Hahn placed first in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:36.49), while Barlow added the quickest time in the 500-yard freestyle (5:24.40).
Ursinus closed out the meet by placing first in the 400-yard freestyle relay as the quartet of Hahn, Bozzomo, Barlow, and Valeriano combined for a time of 3:42.59.
The Bears return to action on Saturday, February 1st as they host Gettysburg College to celebrate Senior Day starting at 1 p.m.
