CHESTER, Pa. – The Ursinus women's swimming team earned eight event victories en route to a 119-83 victory over Widener University on Saturday afternoon.
With the victory, Ursinus improved to 2-3 on the season while the Pride falls to 2-3 to start their season.
Ursinus opened by earning the fastest time in the 200-yard medley relay as the quartet of first-years
Caelan Ladd,
Isabella Warren,
Lindsay Willis, and junior
Morgan Valeriano combined for a time of 1:55.29. The Bears carried the momentum into the next event as first-year
Kendell Goelz (1st, 11:18.64) and junior
Sylvi Lynch (2nd, 12:02.36) collected the top-two times in the 1000-yard freestyle. Next, junior
Melanie Hahn (1st, 2:02.86) and first-year
Riley Smith (3rd, 2:11.97) earned top-three finishes for the Bears in the 200-yard freestyle.
Ladd tallied her first event victory of the day in the 400-yard IM totaling a time of 4:40.74, while Valeriano placed second by touching the wall at 4:49.20. Later in the meet, Valeriano collected an event victory in the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.46) with sophomore
Haley Lenker finishing second with a time of 1:06.48. Meanwhile, in the 100-yard butterfly, Warren added the top-time by touching the wall at 1:05.70, while junior
Mia Tamburrino (1:07.46) placed second.
Goelz and Ladd closed out the meet for the Bears by winning each of the final two events to clinch the victory for Ursinus. Goelz tallied the top-time in the 500-yard freestyle (5:34.45), while Ladd won the 100-yard breaststroke behind a time of 1:12.98.
Ursinus will return to action on Saturday, November 8th as they host McDaniel College and Juniata College for a tri-meet at the William Elliott Pool starting at 1 p.m.
