LANCASTER, Pa. – Ursinus junior
Andrew Schaen has been named the Centennial Conference Wrestler of the Week, announced by the conference on Tuesday morning.
Schaen went a perfect 5-0 en route to the individual title in the 141-pound weight class at the Messiah Invitational on Saturday. He opened with a 10-1 major decision over Johns Hopkins' Max Apsel before defeating Arcadia's Braxton Stewart by fall at the 4:37 mark. He followed with a 17-1 technical fall over Brockport's Tanner King and a 15-10 decision over Brockport's Jaden Friel to reach the finals. In the championship bout, Schaen topped Messiah's Shaun Quirk, ranked No. 14 nationally, using a trio of takedowns and an escape in the final period to earn a 14-13 victory.
Last season, Schaen posted a 28-13 record and finished as the runner-up at the Centennial Conference Championships. He is currently ranked fourth in Region III by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA).
This marks the second time in his career Schaen has earned the conference's weekly honor, previously receiving the accolade on February 4th last season.
The Bears return to action Saturday, November 8th, when they host their annual Racich Rumble beginning at noon in Floy Lewis Bakes Field House.
