WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Ursinus women's wrestling team earned a pair of road victories over Muhlenberg College and McDaniel College on Saturday afternoon.
The Bears opened the day with a 29-15 victory over Muhlenberg before defeating host McDaniel, 29-19. With the wins, Ursinus improved to 9-3 on the season and recorded its
fourth consecutive dual-meet victory.
Ursinus 29, Muhlenberg 15
The dual began at 117 pounds, where Ursinus fell behind early after the Mules recorded a fall in the opening bout. The Bears responded with six consecutive victories, all by bonus points, to secure the win.
Senior
Kalli Roskos opened the rally with a victory by technical superiority over Alessandra Rodriguez, followed by a forfeit win by junior
Stacy Bloomfield to give Ursinus a 9-5 advantage. At 138 pounds, junior
Paisley Fox earned a fall over Ella Pomeranz to extend the lead to 14-5, while junior
Cloe Charlesworth received a forfeit at 145 pounds to make it 19-5.
First-year wrestlers
Marty Morrison (160) and
Jurelys Peguero Del Rosario (180) clinched the dual by recording falls, sealing the 29-15 victory.
Ursinus 29, McDaniel 19
McDaniel took an early 5-0 lead after receiving a forfeit at 103 pounds, but Ursinus answered when first-year
Aubree Butler earned a fall at 110 pounds to tie the dual at 5-5. Butler built an early 7-0 lead over Juliana Oxenberg before using a double-leg takedown and half to secure the pin at the 3:45 mark.
The Green Terror regained a 10-5 advantage with a forfeit at 117 pounds, but Roskos responded with a 10-0 victory by technical superiority to cut the deficit to 10-9. Roskos earned a quick takedown before using a leg lock to secure the win within the opening minute.
Bloomfield (131) and Fox (138) followed with back-to-back falls to push the Bears' lead to 19-10. Charlesworth made it three consecutive pins at 145 pounds, defeating Lena Black at the 1:44 mark to clinch the dual. She jumped out to an early 6-0 lead before capitalizing on an inside leg trip to secure the fall.
First-year
Nadia Hawrylchak closed the match at 160 pounds with a fall over Maddux Wukitch at the 5:36 mark, securing the 29-19 victory.
The Bears return to action Wednesday, Feb. 4, when they host Delaware Valley for Senior Day beginning at 6:30 p.m.
