LANCASTER, Pa. – The Ursinus women's swimming team turned in multiple standout performances on the third day of competition at the Centennial Conference Championships on Saturday.
Ursinus sits fourth in the team standings with 219 points. Swarthmore College leads the field with 561 points, followed by Johns Hopkins (542.5) in second and Gettysburg College (420) in third. Ursinus (219) and Franklin & Marshall (170) round out the top five in the nine-team field.
The meet was highlighted by first-year
Caelan Ladd breaking the Ursinus school record in the 400-yard individual medley, surpassing Katie Schultz's time of 4:31.20 set in 2018. Ladd first broke the record in the preliminaries with a time of 4:26.78 before posting an NCAA Division III B-cut time of 4:23.77 in the finals to finish second. Her mark ranks 11th in Division III this season.
Junior
Morgan Valeriano also impressed in the 400-yard individual medley, placing fourth overall with a time of 4:32.87. Valeriano holds the third-fastest time in program history with her career-best mark of 4:32.41. In the B final, first-year
Kendell Goelz recorded a time of 4:53.13 to place eighth in the heat and 16th overall.
In the B final of the 200-yard freestyle, junior
Melanie Hahn and senior
Sara Bozzomo delivered strong swims. Hahn placed third in the heat and 11th overall with a time of 1:56.18, while Bozzomo finished fifth in the B final and 13th overall in 1:56.56.
The Bears closed the day in the 100-yard backstroke, where sophomore
Maria Wehmeyer placed seventh in the B final and 15th overall with a time of 1:01.08.
Ursinus returns to action Sunday morning at 8 a.m. with the 1,650-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly and 400-yard freestyle relay scheduled.
