Ursinus Athletics Mourns the Passing of Ray McMahon

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus College mourns the loss of former Ursinus Gymnastics head coach Ray McMahon, who passed away at the age of 83 on April 29th.
 
 
McMahon became the Ursinus Gymnastics coach prior to the 1987 season and held the position for 14 seasons after completing it in 2000. He was named the NCGA Division III Coach of the Year in 1997 after leading the Bears to their first NCGA National Championship appearance as a team in program history McMahon was later inducted into the NCGA Hall of Fame in 2012 becoming the first coach/athlete from Ursinus to be inducted into that Hall of Fame.
 
 
McMahon served as a Health and Physical Education teacher in the Colonial School District in Plymouth Whitemarsh for 38 years. He later taught at York High School in Maine.  In addition to teaching, Raymond had a lifelong passion for athletics and was the owner of Sprite Gymnastics in Norristown, Pennsylvania.
 
 
In lieu of a traditional funeral service, Raymond's family will be hosting a Celebration of Life for family and friends in early summer. Details will be shared at a later time. To honor his legacy, the family will also be establishing the Raymond McMahon Scholarship Fund to support a student-athlete pursuing their education.
