COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus Women's Tennis team began their fall season with a 6-1 win over Arcadia on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at the Ace Bailey Tennis Courts.
The win was the first for brand new head coach
Tim Koch as he begins his first campaign with the Bears men's and women's teams.
The Bears swept the three doubles points to take the first point of the match. Sophomore
Sara Steelesmith and first-year
Abigail Niculcea bested Kaylee Higgins and Nayah Johnson 6-0 at the No. 3 doubles spot and senior
Morgan Coupe and first-year
Nicolette Agassi took down Jada Young and Jessie Friel 6-1 at the No. 1 doubles spot. Senior
Caroline Daly and first-year
Meg Taylor downed Nicole Scannapieco and Michelle Planita at No. 2 doubles to complete the sweep.
In singles, Coupe swept Friel 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 4 spot and Taylor bested Higgins 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 2 position. Daly locked up the match by beating Scannapieco 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 singles and Agassi was downed 4-6, 1-6 by Young at the No. 1 singles spot. Niculcea won 6-0, 6-1 over Planita at No. 5 singles and Steelesmith took down Johnson 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 6 spot.
Ursinus returns to action on Friday, September 25
th as they will compete at the ITA Southeast Regionals at Mary Washington.
