Corey Shaffer

Corey Shaffer enters his third season as head coach for the Ursinus Men's Lacrosse team after previous head coach Gary Mercadante's departure in August 2022. He was named head coach in April 2023 after initially serving as the interim coach.

Shaffer initially joined the Ursinus staff in the fall of 2018 and has primarily served as the team's defensive coordinator. The Bears won their first Centennial Conference Championship in program history during his debut season on the coaching staff in 2019. The team has qualified for a pair of Centennial Conference tournaments as well, including the previous 2022 season where they advanced to the semifinal round against eventual conference champion Dickinson. Shaffer was initially promoted to associate head coach in 2021.

A former goalkeeper at McDaniel College, Shaffer returned to the Centennial Conference after two seasons as Mercadante's offensive coordinator at Delaware Valley University. Shaffer served as OC and worked primarily with the goaltenders at Delaware Valley, where he aided in game preparation, practice design, and social media for the Aggies' fledgling program.

Shaffer has been a coach with Back 2 Basics Lacrosse LLC since 2016, teaching the fundamentals of the sport to a wide range of age groups and providing individual lessons and tutoring for goalies. He has also been a coach and camp counselor at Headstrong Lacrosse Foundation since 2014.

A former two-time all-state goalie at La Salle College High School, Shaffer graduated from McDaniel in 2016 with a bachelor's degree in exercise science and physical education and minors in sport coaching; athletic training; and performance, fitness, and conditioning. He is currently pursuing a master's degree in education at Delaware Valley.
