Johnson joined the Baseball staff in September of 2024 and enters 2027 for his third season as an Assistant Coach, working with the Infielders.
The 2026 season also featured major individual recognition under the Bears’ coaching staff, Ursinus earned five All-Centennial Conference selections, led by first-team pitcher Dan Bass, second-team selections Max Shilstone and Brett Barrett, and honorable mention honorees Brandon Sullivan and Luke Kopec. Bass and first-year two-way player Jamie O’Neill also earned D3baseball.com All-Region honors, while Bass added ABCA All-Region recognition.
The Bears finished with one of their best seasons in program history in 2026, finishing with a 25-18-1 record and qualifying for the Centennial Conference Baseball Tournament. During the Bears’ 2026 postseason run, Ursinus earned victories over Gettysburg College, Washington College, and McDaniel College before falling to nationally ranked Johns Hopkins in the title game, marking their first appearance in the championship game since 2017.
Since Johnson’s arrival, Ursinus has been one of the best defensive teams in the Centennial and Region. In 2025, the Bears ranked 10th in the country averaging .98 double plays per game while the Bears fielding percentage of .966 ranked second in the Centennial.
Prior to Collegeville, Johnson served as an assistant coach at Cabrini University for eight seasons and as a senior assistant coach at Villanova University for 13 seasons.
A former All-American infielder at Temple, Johnson helped lead the Owls to the College World Series in 1977. He hit .399 in his career, was named a second team All-American, ECC Player of the Year, and was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in 1979.
