Tyler Melius

Tyler Melius enters his ninth year as a volunteer assistant coach for both the cross country and track & field programs. Working primarily with the men’s and women’s mid-distance and distance groups, Melius specializes in all events ranging from the 800 to the 10k.

In his first eight years with the Bears, many of the men’s and women’s distance and mid-distance athletes saw significant improvements.

Women’s T&F/XC

During Melius’ time at UC, the women’s mid-distance crew rewrote the UC record books breaking eight middle distance records. Rachel Conhoff, a multi time Centennial Conference Champion, was a four time NCAA National Qualifier. During the 2022 XC season, UC finished a program best 4th place at the Centennial Conference Championship. Both Rachel Conhoff and Holly Chambers were named to the All-Conference Team. Conhoff finished runner-up at the NCAA Metro Regional Championship and advanced to the NCAA National Championship for the second consecutive year.

Men’s T&F/XC

Under Melius’ watch the men’s program has broken seven school records and one conference record. Mid-Distance specialist Drew Mackin dropped his time from 1:55 to 1:50 in the 800M, which qualified him for the 2016 NCAA outdoor championship. During the 2021 XC season, the Bears finished a program best 7th place at the NCAA Metro Regional Championship. Giles Daly, Marcos Maciel, and Christian Rosado were all named to the All-Region Team.

Prior to Ursinus, Melius was a standout student-athlete at Slippery Rock University where he excelled in both the classroom and on the track.

A three-time Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference track champion and three-time All-Atlantic Region Team honoree, Melius was also a member of two record-setting relay teams (Indoor 4x800 and Outdoor 4x800) at Slippery Rock. At the conclusion of his senior year, he was named to the PSAC Top-10 List for his accomplishments.

In 2015, he graduated Summa Cum Laude from Slippery Rock with a bachelor’s degree in Safety and Environmental Management and a minor in Spanish.

Melius holds a USATF Level 1 Coaching Certification and an Endurance Specialist Certification through the USTFCCCA.
