Bears drop Centennial opener, falling to Hopkins, 73-63

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Johns Hopkins junior forward Lyndsay Burton pumped in a game-high 17 points, including 11 in the second half, as the Blue Jays (2-1, 1-0 Centennial) rallied from a halftime deficit to defeat Ursinus (2-1, 0-1 Centennial) 73-63 Tuesday night in the Centennial opener for both teams.

Senior guard Anastasia Wynn added in 16 as the Blue Jays held as much as an 18-point lead in the second half after trailing by two at intermission.

For Ursinus, senior center Carolyn Konstanzer (Hilltown, Pa./Pennridge), sophomore forward Lindsay Teuber (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Basil's) and sophomore guard Alli Rosati (Jamison, Pa./C.B. East) each had 15 points, with Rosati adding in a game-high 11 rebounds. She also had seven assists.

Teuber finished with nine rebounds for Ursinus to go along with three blocks.

Ursinus was hampered by cold shooting in the second half, both from the field (11-for-30, 36.7 percent) and the foul line (11-for-19, 57.9 percent). The Bears finished 13-for-26 from the foul line on the night.

Hopkins jumped to a 7-0 lead out of the game, on a three pointer by sophomore guard Chantel Mattiola. Ursinus would fight back and take its first lead at 11-10 with 11:13 left in the opening half on a foul shot by sophomore guard Jen Sroba (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock South).

Neither team would garner more than a four-point lead the rest of the half, before Ursinus took a 29-27 lead at half on a layup by sophomore guard Kristy George (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall).

In the second half, Hopkins took the lead for good on a three-pointer by Wynn with 18:49 left to go up 32-31. From that point, JHU took an eight-point lead with 15:14 left on a jumper by junior forward Siobhan Callanan to make the score 41-33.

Trailing 43-41 with 13:24 left, Ursinus then saw the Blue Jays go on a 20-4 scoring run over the next 4:37 to take that 18-point lead. From that point, Ursinus would get no closer than six the rest of the way.

Burton finished with nine rebounds for the Blue Jays, who held a 44-35 lead on the boards.
