Box Score COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Ursinus sophomore guard Alli Rosati
(Jamison, Pa./Central Bucks East) sank two foul shots with 3.2
seconds remaining in regulation as the Bears (7-7, 5-5 Centennial)
defeated Swarthmore (6-8, 3-6 Centennial) 66-64 Saturday afternoon
in women's basketball play.
Bears junior guard Jaclyn Hilf (Maple Glen, Pa./Upper
Dublin) had a game-high 20 points while senior guard
Laura Krieger (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Our Lady of
Lourdes) had 14 points off the bench as the Bears swept
the season-series from Garnet.
Senior forward Kathryn Stockbower had 14 points and 13 rebounds
for Swarthmore, while freshman guard Madeline Ross had 11 points
off the bench. Swarthmore's last play on an inbound pass was
intercepted by Ursinus sophomore forward Lindsay Teuber
(Philadelphia, Pa./St. Basil's).
Ursinus lead by ten points at 64-54 with 4:22 left before the
Garnet started to rally back. A 12-0 run tied the score at 64-all
with 22 seconds left as Stockbower sank one of two foul shots.
Rosati attempted a layup with three seconds left, but, was fouled
by senior guard Lisa Schumacher setting up the free throws.
The Bears dialed long distance in the win, connected in 13-of-24
three-pointers (54.2 percent), including a 50 percent (6-for-12)
mark in the second half.
Ursinus took an early 6-2 lead with 18:19 left on back-to-back
three-pointers from Hilf and freshman forward Amber Yacenda
(Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East). At that point,
Swarthmore went on a 7-1 run over the next 1:29 to go up 9-7 on a
pair of foul shots from junior forward Pamela Costello.
After the two teams traded the lead, Ursinus went back up 12-11
on a jumper by Hilf with 14:01 left. Ursinus would take a
seven-point lead at 18-11 with 11:13 left on a three-pointer by
Krieger. Swarthmore would rally back to tie the score at 19-all
with 9:41 left on a three-pointer by freshman guard Madeline Ross.
But, a jumper by Teuber and two foul shots by sophomore guard
Jen Sroba (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) gave
Ursinus a 23-19 lead with 8:36 left in the half.
Ursinus maintained the lead and jumped out in front as much as
ten at 35-25 with 4:15 left on a three-pointer by Krieger.
In the second half, Ursinus did not surrender the lead until the
Garnet tied it late.
Hilf also finished with six assists, as both teams had 31
rebounds. Teuber had two blocks and three steals in the win.
For Swarthmore, Stockbower had three blocks. The Garnet shot
20-for-27 from the foul line in the contest.
