Box Score COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus took a 2-0 set lead, only to
see Rutgers-Camden rally and force a fifth set in non-conference
volleyball action Tuesday night, before the Bears walked away with
a hard-fought 3-2 win.
Set scores were 25-20, 25-17, 23-25, 22-25, 15-11.
Ursinus (6-3) had several contributions from key players on the
evening, as senior outside hitter Mary Kate Wilmoth (Wilmington,
Del./St. Mark's) and sophomore middle blocker Kristin Hanratty (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) each had 11 kills. Junior
outside hitter Kim Goldberg (Sarasota, Fla./Out of Door Academy)
had nine kills, with freshman middle blocker Anahi McIntyre (Cherry
Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) having eight.
Senior outside hitter Gabriella Galleo (Reading,
Pa./Spring-Ford) had 28 digs, with sophomore middle blocker Kayla McLeod (Hermitage, Tenn./University School of Nashville) netting
five blocks.
Junior setter Elizabeth Roth (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) had 37
assists on the evening.
Ursinus had a 17-13 third set lead, before Rutgers-Camden (5-2)
rallied to take an 18-17 lead on a service ace by Katherine Crosby.
Ursinus would stay within one point the rest of the way, before
taking a 23-22 lead on a kill by Hanratty. Rutgers-Camden scored
the next three points, two of which came on kills by Crosby, to
force the fourth set. Crosby finished with a match-high 21
kills.
In the fourth set, Ursinus had an 11-6 set before the Scarlet
Raptors would rally back to tie the score at 14-all, before taking
a 22-19 lead lead on an Ursinus attack error. The Bears would get
within two at 23-21, but was forced into the fifth set.
In the fifth set, Ursinus took a 5-0 lead, however,
Rutgers-Camden again rallied back to tie the score at 7-all. A bad
set by McLeod gave Rutgers-Camden an 8-7 lead before Ursinus took
the lead for good on an attack error by Crosby making the score
11-10.
A kill from McIntyre won the match for the Bears on an assist
from Roth.
Ursinus will take part in the Knights Invitational this
Friday-Saturday at Neumann University, starting off with matches
against Chestnut Hill and Penn State-Altoona.
