Down the Middle

CARLISLE, Pa. – It was near symmetry for the Ursinus College football team on Saturday in their season finale with Dickinson.

The Bears rushed for 182 yards and threw for 184 yards in a 34-16 win over the Red Devils, as the Bears finished 6-4 and 6-3 in the Centennial Conference. The Bears also finished with a winning record for the third straight year.

Sophomore running back Bryan Ellis rushed for 155 yards on 31 carries with a score, while sophomore quarterback Chris Curran threw for 184 yards and two scores as the Bears held Dickinson to just three points in the second half.

Senior Kahlil Pittman finished with a game-high six catches for 76 yards and a score as the Bears defeated Dickinson for the third straight year. 

Defensively, Chris Salaga had a team-high ten stops with Joe Henry grabbing nine. 

The defensive unit put the Bears on the board first as junior Chris Rountree juggled a pick, then came down with it and returned it 75 yards for a 7-0 Bears lead with 11:50 left in the first. Dickinson answered as Cam Di Fete caught a 44 yard pass from Cole Ahnell with 9:08 to go in the first to tie the score at 7-all.

Michael Bennett gave the Bears a 10-7 lead in the second quarter as he kicked a 38-yard field goal with 9:38 left. The Bears would then take a 17-7 lead with 2:41 left when Pittman caught an 8-yard pass from Curran.

Dickinson got a defensive score of its own, as Micheal Miller returned a fumble 71 yards with nine seconds left in the half to put the Red Devils within four at 17-13. 

A 24-yard scoring pass from Curran to senior Al Desiderio opened the third quarter, putting the Bears up 24-13. The two teams would then trade field goals, as Dickinson got a 33-yarder from David London and Ursinus got a 37-yarder from Bennett, giving Ursinus a 27-16 lead with 9:02 left.

Ellis would score his lone touchdown with 1:12 left from 5-yards out for 34-16 lead.

With Curran's 184 yard performance, he finished the season with over 2,000 yards passing.
